Finding a Dragon

A Dragon Rider's first true task is in obtaining a dragon. For some, this is as simple as having access to a cache of ready-to-hatch eggs. For others, this could be the culmination of a dangerous journey to the outer reaches of society where dragons can be found and tamed. This module does not require that any one way of getting a dragon is adhered to. The only requirement for a character to become a Dragon Rider is that they have access to a dragon that can be tamed and trained as they level up.

Dragon Statistics

Dragons have to be a certain size and age to qualify for being companions to Dragon Riders. The following statistics represent the base for every Young Dragon. As Dragons level up, they will grow and become more powerful. More information about this growth can be found in Draconic Progression

Young Dragon

Size: Large

Height: 1.5m at the Shoulder, 2m from nose to tail.

Weight: 100kg

Starting Abilities:

Movement:

  • Walking: 5m

  • Flying: 10m

Training Your Dragon

An optional requirement for Dragon Riders is the act of taming their new Dragon companion. Taming a dragon is not an easy process and requires a long process of dedication and hard work.

If using this feature, Dragon Riders must make a series of checks to determine how well they have trained their dragon. Twice Per Level, a Dragon Rider can attempt to train their dragon, rolling a check with the following results:

  • 3 or below: The Dragon resists your attempts to train it so aggressively that your process is set back. Lose 1 Taming Level.

  • 4-7: The Dragon does not respond to your efforts. There is no change to its Taming Level

  • 8-18: The Dragon responds positively to your attempts to train it. Gain 1 Taming Level

  • 19 or above: The Dragon is especially receptive to your efforts to tame it. Gain 2 Taming Levels.

If not using this feature, all Dragons are treated as having reached a Taming Level of 5.

Taming Levels

A Dragon's Taming Level has a direct impact on how effective it is as a tool in life and in battle. As the level increases, Characters will gain positive effects from their Dragon companion. Conversely, as the level decreases, an unruly Dragon may become more of a hinderance. In addition to Training sessions, characters can also gain, or lose, Taming Levels with their dragons from events and the effects of Abilities. Some of these triggers will be discussed below.
