Quest 3: Bonecrusher's Challenges

Focus

Focus is a special attribute that allows any Character to improve their chances of success in Monomyth. For each point of Focus spent, a Character gains +5 to their dice roll. This can be used on any dice roll, unless the rules of that roll state otherwise.

Once a Focus point is spent, it is lost. Characters can regain focus by either Resting or taking a turn in Combat. Both of these cases will be covered later.

You can read more about Focus in Core: Focus

Quest Stages

Stage 1: The Drinking Competition

Penalty

Penalty can be thought of as the opposite of Focus. For each point of Penalty a Character has on a roll, they lose -5 on their dice roll.

Characters rolling with Penalty can use Focus to negate the Penalty's effects.

Stage 2: A Test of Fortitude
Stage 3: A Leap of Faith

Roll Thresholds

Most rolls in Monomyth list thresholds for success or failure. They commonly look like:

  • 5 or less: Some bad result

  • 6-15: Some neutral result

  • 16 or more: Some good result

Some rolls may only have one threshold for success/failure while others may have several levels of success and failure as shown above.
