Creating a character in Monomyth is fairly straightforward. Characters at Level 1 all start with:
3 Health
2 Focus
1 Learned Ability
5 meters of Movement
Additionally, characters each have a description which can include information such as height, weight, gender, age, etc.
A character's health represents how many serious wounds they can take before dying. More information about what happens when a character reaches 0 health can be found in .
Characters can use focus to unleash powerful abilities or focus on the actions that they are taking in order to increase their chances of a positive result. More information about focus can be found in
Characters all have abilities that make them unique in the Monomyth universe. Abilities can be anything from simple effects like increased resistance to damage or complex effects such as learning entire schools of magic or spellcasting. More information about Abilities and how they are granted can be found in
A character's movement speed dictates how far they can move in a single round of combat. A character can move a number of meters up to or equal to their movement speed per round. Some character origins or abilities can grant more or less movement speed during character creation.
Special Movement: Some abilities or special character traits may grant special types of movement, such as flying, swimming, or climbing. Characters with these special movement types can move at their full speed using that movement type.
All special movement is done at half speed (rounded down) unless the character has the appropriate special movement type.
Creatures and characters all have a size, representing how much space they take up in-game and on any combat maps/boards. The possible sizes are:
Small: Small characters occupy an area less than 1m x 1m
Medium: Medium characters occupy an area of 1m x 1m
Large: Large characters occupy an area of 2m x 2m
Giant: Giant characters occupy an area of 4m x 4m
Titanic: Titanic characters occupy an area greater than 4m x 4m
Player characters should be created as Medium creatures unless specified otherwise.
Some Monomyth modules may grant other character creation choices that can further add flavor or abilities to characters. These can include (but are not limited to):
Races
Origins/Backgrounds
Motivations
Starting Wealth or Equipment
When creating a character, please make sure to follow the additional character creation rules of whatever module(s) are in use.
