Core: Actions
Characters in Monomyth use actions in order to participate in combat. On each character's turn, they are able to perform Free Actions, Actions, Movement, and Reactions.
All active Abilities in Monomyth will specify whether they require an Action, Free Action, or Reaction to Complete.
Free Actions
Some actions require little to no effort to complete, even in the heat of combat. Characters get 1 Free Action per turn. These free actions are commonly simple tasks such as switching weapons, spotting enemies, or shouting orders to allies.
Actions
Some actions do require effort, concentration, or skill to complete. Characters get 1 Action per turn of combat. Most active abilities, item uses, or complex activities would require an Action to complete in combat.
Reactions
Reactions are special actions that can happen outside of a character's turn in combat. Reactions commonly occur when an event, effect, or ability triggers them, as specified in the Reaction's description.
Characters can use any number of Reactions per round of combat, however each Reaction costs 1 Focus to activate. This Focus is not added to any of the Reaction's rolls.
Action Duration
Some actions may have a Duration longer than 1 Turn. When this is the case, the effects of this Action persist for the duration as specified by the Action itself. Some actions with a Duration may require the character using the action to maintain it on subsequent turns by using another Free Action or Action.
Characters may not have multiple actions with Durations longer than 1 Turn active at a single time. Using an action with a duration while another is active causes the older action to instantly end.
Some actions have no duration. These actions are considered instant and their effect immediately resolves. Characters can use instant actions as long as they are able to do so, even if they are maintaining the effects of an action with a duration.
Movement
Each character is able to move up to their movement speed for free in each turn of combat. This movement can happen at any time in a turn and in any number of chunks. For example, a character with a move speed of 6 meters can move 3 meters in order to engage an enemy and then an additional 3 meters after attacking the enemy in order to get out of its range.
If a character wants to move a distance greater than their movement speed, they can spend 1 Focus. For each Focus spent, the character can move up to an additional 5 Meters.
