Combat in Monomyth takes place over a number of Character turns in which characters attempt to defeat their opponents.
Characters determine their turn order by rolling a d20 at the start of combat. Turns go in order of the value rolled from highest to lowest. Characters can use focus to affect this roll. Tied rolls are resolved by having characters roll a d20 until the tie is broken. These tiebreaker rolls can also use focus.
Combats that start with one or more characters unaware that they are in combat include a special surprise turn.
Surprised characters have the following effects:
They cannot act on the first turn of combat and must Pass their turn.
They cannot add Focus to any rolls that they make before their first turn without surprise.
They cannot use any Reaction abilities.
Additionally, characters who are not surprised automatically perform all rolls against surprised characters with 1 Bonus Focus.
Each Character turn in Monomyth has the following progression:
Start of Turn Effects: All abilities that trigger an effect at the start of a Character's turn resolve first.
Death Save: Characters that are dying have to make a Death Save. More information can be found in. Characters that roll a Death Save immediately end their turn afterward.
Regain Health/Focus: Characters can choose to regain 1 Health or 1 Focus at the start of their turn.
Movement and Actions: Movement and actions can happen in any order during a turn. Each turn, characters can:
Move a distance less than or equal to their Movement Speed
Perform 1 Free Action
Perform 1 Action
Each full round of Character turns in combat represents 10 Seconds of elapsed time.
